The Family Life Center is used for a variety of activities for children: Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball & Softball Practice & for adults: Church Picnics, Special Dinners & Entertainment Events. We have two softball teams that play at Nike Park: Men’s Team and a Co-Ed Team.
The Youth Ministry is for youth grades 7-12. We have a committed group of youth and adult leaders to being R.E.A.D.Y. to Reach out to nonbelievers, Equip believers, helping them to Answer their call to ministry, by showing Devotion to Christ, while being Yoked together in fellowship. We are active in our local community, participating in Christian Outreach & Youth Missions Coming Alive, and in our global community, traveling to Europe for Foreign missions and other regions of our state and country to share the Good News of Jesus Christ! Many activities are planned throughout the year including: Junior High Weekend, Senior High Weekend, Winter Ski Retreat, Centrifuge Summer Camp, Impact Virginia, Discipleship Now, See You At The Pole Rally, 30 Hour Famine, & much more!
The Children’s Ministry is for children ages preschool through grade 6. We have an awesome group of parents and volunteers that are committed to the spiritual nourishment and growth of kids. We are active in our local community, participating in the Angel Tree at Christmas, and providing opportunities for children to learn about God’s love and to share God’s love expressed through his Son Jesus Christ! Seasonal Activities include: Fall Festival, Parent’s Night Out, Easter Outreach & Egg Hunt, “Thrilling Thursday’s” and VBS in the summer.
Smithfield Baptist Church has offered an exceptional early childhood education program to our community since 1989. The program focuses on developmentally appropriate activities designed to foster growth in the whole child. The Smithfield Baptist Church Preschool has a caring, competent staff that provides a Christian environment for children to enjoy learning. The preschool program offers 2, 3, 4, and 5 day classes each weekday morning from September through May for children ages 2.5, 3, 4, and 5. There are many ways for adults and senior adults to get involved at Smithfield Baptist. Our adults meet weekly for Bible Study on Wednesday nights immediately following the dinner. Our WMU circles include: The Gladys Barlow Group, The Hannah Barlow Bain Group, and the Women’s Bible Study. WMU is always actively seeking out women ages 18 and up to participate in Missions Study & Mobilization. “Prime Timers” are a group of senior adults who enjoy getting together for special outings such as concerts and Christian Fellowship with other local church senior adults. Once a month they have “Game Night” on Thursday night, dates and times to be determined at a later date.
Smithfield Baptist offers music training and drama opportunities for all ages! The sharing of special musical talents as a part of worship is always encouraged. Our Traditional Service has Adult Choir & Handbell Choir for youth and adults. Preschool through 3rd grade is for Cherub Choir and grades 2-6 for Children’s Choir. Our Open Door Service provides opportunities for those who play an instrument to play in the praise band and those with dramatic skills to join the drama team.
Smithfield Baptist Church is pleased to offer the convenience and services of our own Media Library. It is well organized and stocked with books (both religious and general interest), records, filmstrips, video cassettes and audio-visual equipment. Items on a variety of subjects are available to be checked out by individuals of all ages. Audio cassettes of some worship services and special church programs are also available for check-out.
